MSc Computer Engineering
Admission to the master's degree programme in Computer Engineering is open to holders of an Italian Laurea degree, or a suitable degree obtained abroad (Bachelor of Science or equivalent first-cycle degree).
Applications are evaluated by an Evaluation Committee (EC) appointed by the Degree Programme Board. The EC will verify:
that the curricular requirements defined in the following are met by the applicant;
that the applicant has an adequate personal preparation to undertake the studies of the master's degree, in particular with regard to the basic knowledge of mathematics and computer engineering, and/or further subjects related to the latter (e.g., electronics, telecommunications, automation or management). This will be done by examining the applicant's curriculum and career, and by possiby interviewing her/him;
that the applicant possesses an adequate knowledge of the English language, comparable to the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This last requirement (which is mandatory) can be waived if the applicant provides a suitable English language certification at the time of enrolment.

Admission is open to graduates with any Italian degree that satisfies the following curricular requirements:
at least 36 CFUs taken from learning activities in the SSD sectors in Group 1: MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09, FIS/01, FIS/03,
at least 36 CFUs taken from learning activities in the SSD sectors in Group 2: ING-INF/05, INF/01,
at least 18 CFUs taken from learning activities in the SSD sectors in Group 3: ING-INF/03, ING-INF/04, ING-INF/01, ING-IND/31, ING-IND/35.

International students
Admission requirements
Admission is open to graduates that either hold:
a Bachelor of Science (BSc), or equivalent first-cycle degree, obtained abroad after the completion of a three-year (minimum) course of study. The requested degree must include courses on subjects related to computer hardware and software, comparable to those that typically belong to the background of a graduate in Computer Engineering or Computer Science (i.e., exams in algorithms and programming, computer architecture, operating systems, computer networks, and database systems). Applicants whose transcripts lack any of the above exams will not be considered eligible. A strong background in mathematics is also required. Proficiency in related engineering subjects (e.g., electronics, telecommunications, automation, or management) is also favorably considered. It is strictly required for applicants to hold a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) equal to or above 75% of the maximum grades (e.g., 3 in a scale of 4, or 15 in a scale of 20). The CGPA must be computed on all the exams (including elective ones) over all the years of the first-cycle degree, and must be substantiated by the submitted official documentation. Exclusively technical/professional degrees (like, for example Bachelor of Computer Applications) are not valid for the purpose of the application.

Knowledge of the English language, comparable to the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, is also required. The possession of the language knowledge requirement can be certified by the applicant at the time of enrolment. Otherwise, it will be verified by the EC through the interview.
Fees and Financial Support
University fees are due on a yearly basis. Fees are determined by the Board of Directors and usually announced in the month of June for the following academic year. As reference information, the fees for the a.y. 2022/23 varied from € 356 to € 2,400, depending on the student’s country of origin.
Possible financial support to international students can be obtained from several bodies:
The University of Pisa grants Merit Scholarships to the best admitted international students (https://www.unipi.it/contribution). Applicants to the first call will be ranked based on the CV, interview results, CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and the country of origin (giving priority to the least economically advantaged countries). The scholarship will cover two years, as follows:
First academic year: € 6,500 net and tuition waiver;
Second academic year: € 8,000 net and 50% reduction of tuition (subject to performance verification)

The DSU regional programme (DSU stands for “Diritto allo Studio Universitario,” i.e. “Right to Education”) offers financial support to students at universities in Tuscany - please be aware that DSU is a regional agency, independent from the University of Pisa. A DSU Grant can include:
tuition waivers or reductions;
a full scholarship including free accommodation, meals, and a monthly allowance to cover for extra expenses (e.g., sporting activities, books, etc.).

EU citizens or non-EU citizens with a Permit of Stay in Italy
EU citizens, citizens from the European Economic Area or the Swiss Federation, and non-EU citizens with a Permit of Stay in Italy must follow the standard procedure to enroll at the University of Pisa. Detailed enrolment instructions are available here.
Admission deadline for a.y. 2023/24 is December 29, 2023
If interested, you may request the Degree Programme Board to do a preliminary (informal) assessment of your qualification by sending an email at info_INGINF@dii.unipi.it, thereby including the following documents:
a declaration of knowledge of the English language, specifying the duration of studies and the type of certification held;
the academic degree you possess, with an indication of the legal duration of the course (at least three years), together with a copy of the degree certificate and transcripts (translated to English or Italian);
a copy of your complete Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum covering their education program, as well as any other relevant cultural and professional experience that might help the EC to evaluate your application.
Non-EU citizens with residency abroad
Non-EU citizens living outside of Italy must pre-enroll at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the Country of origin in order to apply for a visa for long-term stays in Italy. Details are available at dedicated pages of the University website.
Pre-enrollement requires that the candidate first partecipates to a competition. The call for application is usually opened in the month of February preceding the start of the academic year. The call for the current academic year can be found below.
